Natives Have Guns and Will Meet Force With Force

DESERONTO, Ont. (CP) — Mohawk protesters, who said they had guns and wouldn’t back down, began preparations for blockades of the main CN line and Highway 401 near this eastern Ontario town late Thursday, despite widespread calls that an aboriginal day of action be peaceful.

Men, women and children in army-style fatigues, their hair braided back or shaved in traditional Mohawk style, began arriving at a makeshift camp outside the town west of Kingston, Ont. just after 5 p.m.

There were reports that dozens of provincial police cruisers had amassed in the nearby city of Napanee.

It was a call to action by protest leader Shawn Brant, a militant Mohawk who has done jail time for trashing the offices of politicians. He stands out as the lone voice calling for militancy on what others had hoped would be a day devoted to public education about native issues.

Brant said he intended to lead blockades of one or both of the main traffic and rail corridors between Toronto and Montreal starting at midnight Thursday night, or before.

He wouldn’t disclose the actual sites, but confirmed that he and others were prepared to “meet force with force” if police got in their way.

“We’ve made no secret that we have guns within this camp,” he told The Canadian Press in an interview.

Protest leader talks about day of action

TORONTO (CP) - Canadian aboriginals are understandably disappointed and frustrated with past injustices but Friday's day of action should be peaceful and reflective, Canada's premiers and territorial leaders said in a joint statement hours before the national day of action was set to begin.

"Together with other Canadians, we respect the right of Canada's First Nations leadership to organize a national day of action," said the statement, signed by every premier and territorial leader with the exception of British Columbia and Nunavut.

"We are mindful of past injustices that have fuelled disappointment and frustration for too long within Aboriginal communities. At the same time, it is also a day to pause and reflect on the very real progress we are making in addressing long-standing First Nation demands and in raising the quality of lift for First Nations people."

The statement goes on to urge organizers of Friday's national day of action to ensure "all actions are peaceful and law-abiding."

While most national and regional chiefs have called for peaceful demonstrations, there are concerns some communities may resort to illegal measures such as highway or railway blockades.

Via Rail is taking the threat seriously and has warned passengers about possible delays if blockades appear.

Ontario is bracing for a possible blockade in the eastern community of Deseronto which could bring one of the province's key highways and rail lines to a halt. The town of Caledonia, in southern Ontario, is also on high alert as the 16-month occupation of a former housing development site continues.

Auschwitz Labour Camp Re-Named

WELLINGTON, N.Z. (AP) - The Auschwitz death camp has been renamed by UNESCO's World Heritage Committee at Poland's request, making clear it was run by Nazis.

The new name, to be announced in the southern New Zealand city Christchurch, was approved by the committee late Wednesday after it received a recommendation from Poland, committee spokesman Roni Amelan said.

The new name comes "in two parts," he said.

"The title is Auschwitz-Birkenau. The second line of the name is German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp (1940-1945)."

Amelan said the new name, proposed by Poland "after consultation with other state parties to the (UNESCO world heritage) convention," applies immediately.

Natives Plan Protest On Canada Day Weekend

TERRORISM!

"...Canadians can expect decades more of demonstrations, blockades, protests and economic upheaval -- or worse. None of that may happen this weekend, but without action, the protests of the future will make those of the past look tame by comparison.

Those are the words of multiculturalist and anti-Canadian Paul Berton, writer for the LONDON FREE PRESS, speaking about the upcoming war between Natives and White Canadians this Canada Day. I call it a war because the Natives are planning to block major highways, like the '401'.

This will cause utter chaos, and you can be sure that White Canadians - weather they be Francos and Accadians to the East, or Anglo-Saxons and Celts to the West - will NOT stand by and allow this to happen.

We will not be held accountable for the actions of our ancestors in this regard because the living people who are complaining are not direct victims, as they claim to be.

Protest could turn tide
By Paul Berton

It has taken several centuries, and it may take several more, but this week's National Day of Action for First Nations may be looked on as a turning point in Canadian history.

It's not as if we haven't been warned.

In an ominous speech in May, Phil Fontaine, head of the Assembly of First Nations, said what he and others have been saying for years, decades, even centuries: "You must realize we have a right to be frustrated, concerned, angry."

Unfortunately, too many Canadians do not realize that. Too many choose to ignore it, and some are actively, even angrily, opposed to doing anything about it.

First Nations are not without blame for the appalling conditions on reserves in many parts of Canada, but they cannot be held responsible for the overall situation.

Israeli President Guilty Of Sexual Assault

Israel's President, Moshe Katsav, will confess to sexual assault and harassment charges. What a pig.

What kind of Nation would elect such an immoral and mentally ill person to lead their country? Of course, Israel is not really a country, not judging by Palestinian standards anyway.

Israeli president resigns amidst sex scandal
By MATTI FRIEDMAN

JERUSALEM (AP) - President Moshe Katsav signed a plea bargain Thursday that will force him to resign but included no rape charges and entailed no jail time, Attorney General Meni Mazuz said Thursday.

The unexpected deal, which included three lesser charges, abruptly ended an especially sordid case in a country where high-level officials - including Prime Minister Ehud Olmert - increasingly have been implicated in scandals.

In the space of a year, Katsav has sunk from being "Israel's No. 1 citizen to a convicted sex offender," Mazuz told a news conference.

Accusations against Katsav first surfaced a year ago, and eventually spread to include four women who formerly worked with him in the president's office and earlier when he was tourism minister.

In January, Mazuz announced he planned to indict Katsav on charges of rape and lesser counts of sexual misconduct. But he allowed Katsav's attorneys to appear before him at a hearing in May to plead their case, as is customary practice with senior officials. At that two-part hearing, new evidence was presented, he told the news conference, but did not give further details.

Many of the allegations expired under Israel's statute of limitations, Mazuz added.

He did not say when Katsav would step aside, and the president's office had no details.

Under the deal, Katsav - who had insisted he was innocent of wrongdoing and the victim of a slur campaign-will plead guilty to sexual harassment, indecent acts and harassing a witness, Mazuz said. He will pay damages to complainants, but receive a suspended sentence, he added.

Black Kids Bang On Pimitive Drums

Black African immigrants in London are being praised for their primitive skills of banging plastic garbage cans, THE LONDON FREE PRESS is reporting. Why they are not celebrating the White Canadian kids that go to the school, who are some of the most talented people in the entire region, makes no sense to me.

Why do immigrants and minorities always come first in Canada? Why not celebrate Canadian culture at the school?

School's drum club draws cheers, tears
Thu, June 28, 2007
By JENNIFER O'BRIEN, SUN MEDIA

It started in January after a few African-born kids told their music teacher they wanted to drum again.

It ended yesterday, with a bang.

Make that many bangs, played out on plastic garbage pails, containers and storage bins.

The act was the last call for C.C. Carrothers Drum Club, which has grown into a source of pride for the southeast London school of many low-income and immigrant families who can't easily afford fancier musical instruments.

While kids hooted and cheered at yesterday's end-of- year assembly, teachers swallowed tears as they watched the multicultural group of drummers beat soulful music out of plastic bins.
